Are Electronic Cigarettes Safe For Everyday Use?
Because of the massive campaign against the use of common tobacco cigarettes, many are now thinking of switching to e-cigs or electronic cigarettes which is claimed to be safer.
But a question that goes into the minds of many is, are electronic cigarettes safe enough? So let us take a look at the most recent updates regarding the safety issues on using many of the electronic cigarette brands.
Contrary to what others think, the “liquid nicotine” in the cartridges of e-cigarettes is not made of purely nicotine. The truth is, a size like that when made of pure nicotine would be equal to smoking 1000 cigarettes in just one sitting and this would be deadly.
The liquid is just an inert solvent where a nicotine concentration of 0.5% to 1.5% is dissolved into it. This kind of concentration is just equal to 5 to 15 cigarette sticks. This is why these electronic cigarettes are far safer from the nicotine poisoning point of view.
The “e-liquid” in the electronic cigarettes is just common stuffs that are also found in our food, this liquid can just be either vegetable glycerin or propylene glycol. These chemicals are commonly found in the things we use everyday like in our foods, personal lubricants and soaps.
Although nicotine does have some negative effects on health. Aside from being the cause of the addiction, nicotine is also a vasoconstrictor. It is dangerous especially to those who have heart problems; it can also increase the risk of developing ulcers and strokes. But even with all these negative effects, we can still say that electronic cigarettes are still safe for use.
Let us not forget that almost all of the harmful effects of cigarette smoking can be traced to the many chemicals that are created by burning. The carbon monoxide, tar and high amount of nitrosamines that causes cancer, and not the nicotine, are the main culprit for the death of smokers. Nicotine on its own doesn’t really cause that much of a problem to its user or for the community compared to the popularly used high-alcohol.
For whether or not electronic cigarette brands are safer for you than traditional tobacco smoking we ask you read the AAPHP statement (American Association of Public Health Physicians) and come to your own conclusion.
